Fishing Times – Solunar Forecast is a free fishing utility app developed by Anish K.S to help anglers find predicted fishing activity periods for any selected date and location. The app uses solunar information based on the movements of the sun and moon to identify Major and Minor fishing periods and make fishing-trip planning easier.

Fishing Times has been designed around a simple idea: open the app, select a location and quickly understand when solunar conditions indicate increased or reduced fish activity.

The app is fully free to use, with its fishing forecast and planning features available without a Premium or Pro subscription.

Why I Developed Fishing Times

Fishing has always involved a combination of experience, patience, location and timing. Solunar theory provides another useful piece of information by examining the relationship between the sun, moon and periods of predicted animal activity.

Fishing Times brings this information into a simple mobile interface.

Rather than limiting the app to the user’s current position, I wanted anglers to be able to save their regular fishing locations and check the forecast for those places before deciding when to visit.

This became one of the important ideas behind Fishing Times: your forecast location does not have to be your current physical location.

Find the Best Fishing Times

When Fishing Times is opened, users can select their current location or use a previously saved fishing spot.

The app calculates the solunar forecast for the selected coordinates and presents information such as Major Fishing Periods, Minor Fishing Periods, Upcoming Best Fishing Time, Previous Best Fishing Time and Low Activity Periods.

This makes it possible to check the day’s activity and also plan fishing for future dates.

The forecast is based on astronomical and solunar information. It should therefore be considered a planning aid rather than a guarantee that fish will be caught during a particular period.

Major and Minor Fishing Periods

Major and Minor periods form an important part of the Fishing Times forecast.

Major periods are associated with the moon being overhead or underfoot, while Minor periods are associated with moonrise and moonset.

Fishing Times presents these periods in an easy-to-understand format so anglers don’t need to manually interpret astronomical information.

Sunrise, sunset and relevant moon information also help provide context for the day’s forecast.

Check Upcoming and Previous Best Fishing Times

Instead of displaying only a collection of times, Fishing Times is designed to make the information useful at the moment the app is opened.

The app can highlight the Upcoming Best Fishing Time and help users see how long remains before the next favourable solunar period.

Once a period has passed, it can be shown as a Previous Best Fishing Time, while the next available period becomes the upcoming one.

This makes the forecast easier to follow throughout the day.

Save Fishing Spots and Check Them From Anywhere

Saved Fishing Spots is one of the features I consider particularly useful.

Users can save multiple fishing locations and give each spot a recognisable name. The saved locations are stored locally for future use.

More importantly, users do not have to physically travel to a saved fishing spot to check its forecast.

Simply select:

Saved Fishing Spots → Select a Spot → View Fishing Forecast

Fishing Times uses the coordinates of the selected spot to calculate its solunar information.

For example, an angler can remain at home, select a favourite river, pond, harbour or coastal location and check its predicted fishing periods before planning a trip.

Plan Fishing for Different Dates

Fishing Times isn’t designed only for checking the current day.

The app includes date-based forecasts so users can look ahead and compare predicted fishing activity before deciding when to go fishing.

A 7-day forecast provides a convenient view of the coming days, while the calendar-based forecast makes longer-term planning easier.

These forecasting and planning features are available as part of the free app.

Choose Your Fishing Environment Theme

Fishing environments can look very different around the world, so Fishing Times includes multiple visual themes.

Users can personalise the appearance of the app by selecting from:

Seashore, Pond, River, Backwaters, Harbour and Open Sea.

These are visual app themes and do not determine the type of fishing location being forecast. Selecting the Pond theme, for example, does not mean that the selected fishing spot must be a pond.

The forecast calculations remain the same regardless of the visual theme selected.

Personalise Fishing Times

Fishing Times doesn’t require users to create an online account just to use the app.

The default welcome name can be changed from Guest to a preferred name and saved locally.

Fishing spots, preferences and supported app settings are also designed around local storage, reducing the need to send personal app data to an external account or server for the core functionality.

Location Access and Privacy

Location access is required when a user wants Fishing Times to determine the device’s current location automatically.

The coordinates are then used to calculate location-specific solunar information.

Users can also work with saved fishing spots rather than relying exclusively on their current physical position.

Fishing Times is designed to use local device storage for saved locations and app preferences. No user account is required for the core fishing forecast experience.

Fishing Times Is Designed for Worldwide Use

Solunar calculations are location dependent, so Fishing Times takes the selected geographic coordinates and local date and time into consideration.

This allows the same app to be used for fishing locations in India, the United States, Europe, Australia and other regions.

A saved location can also be in a different region from the user’s current location. Fishing Times calculates the forecast for the selected fishing location, rather than assuming that the phone’s current position is always the place being forecast.

A Solunar Forecast Does Not Mean Fishing Is Permitted

This distinction is important.

Fishing Times calculates predicted fishing activity for geographic locations. It does not determine whether fishing is legally permitted at a selected location.

A location appearing in the app, being selected for a forecast or being saved as a fishing spot should never be interpreted as permission or a recommendation to fish there.

Fishing regulations can vary according to country, state, local authority, water body, season and fish species. Some locations may be protected areas, privately owned or temporarily closed to fishing.

Users are responsible for checking applicable fishing regulations, licences, seasonal restrictions, protected areas, private-property rules and local access requirements before fishing.

Solunar Forecasts Cannot Guarantee a Catch

Fishing Times predicts periods of potential fish activity using solunar conditions.

Actual fishing results can be influenced by many other factors, including weather, tides, water temperature, water conditions, season, fish species, habitat, bait, fishing technique and local environmental conditions.

For this reason, a high fishing activity rating should not be interpreted as a guaranteed catch.

Fishing Times is intended to provide another useful planning tool that anglers can combine with their own knowledge and local conditions.

Fishing Times combines two areas I enjoy working with: mobile application development and practical digital tools.
